In the midst of ongoing disputes over the title of Jyotishi Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati and recent conflicts at Magh Mela in Prayagraj, a historic alignment among the heads of four major Shankaracharyas may take shape. Reports indicate that a joint event on cow protection could be held on March 10, 2026, in Delhi under the banner of Gau Mata Rashtra Mata Abhiyan.
Possible Third Historic Joint Appearance
If realized, this would mark only the third time in history that the four Shankaracharyas have appeared together. The first such Chatushpeeth Sammelan was held in 1779 at Sringeri, and the second in 2007 in Bengaluru on the issue of Ram Setu.
This rare convergence is seen as a major development in the realm of Sanatan Dharma, reflecting growing unity among the peeths on key religious and social issues.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand at the Center of Attention
Swami Avimukteshwaranand, currently embroiled in a dispute regarding his legitimacy based on a Supreme Court stay on his appointment to Jyotirmath, has reportedly received recognition from at least two peeths—Dwarka and Sringeri.
At the recent Magh Mela, Puri-based Swami Nischalanand Saraswati is said to have addressed him warmly, signaling increased consensus on his position amid ongoing debates over “real vs. fake” claims regarding leadership of the peeths.
Focus on Cow Protection
The proposed Delhi event is being planned under the Gau Mata Rashtra Mata Abhiyan, emphasizing cow protection—a cause championed by all four peeth heads, including Jyotirmath, Sringeri, Puri (Govardhan), and Dwarka.
Swami Nischalanand’s symbolic gesture of discarding his throne and umbrella to pledge himself to Gau Raksha has drawn significant attention and is being seen as a powerful reinforcement of the movement.
Significance for Sanatan Dharma and Peeth Leadership
The joint event could serve as a milestone in the history of Sanatan Dharma, reinforcing unity among the peeths, strengthening cow protection initiatives, and potentially easing leadership tensions within the Shankaracharya lineage.
The planned invitations and preparations for the Delhi gathering indicate growing alignment and a focus on common religious and social objectives, which may have a lasting impact on the tradition and its followers.
