Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to the Chief Ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Chhattisgarh over the situation arising from Cyclone Arnab. He assured them of all possible assistance from the Centre to support people affected by the cyclone.
During the telephone conversations, Shah reviewed the situation in the affected states and assured the respective state governments of the Centre’s support in relief and rescue operations.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are carrying out rescue and relief operations on a war footing in the affected areas. A central ministerial team is also expected to visit the affected states soon to assess the damage caused by the cyclone.
Southern Odisha Hit by Heavy Rainfall
Cyclone Arnab made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, triggering heavy rainfall and strong winds in several southern districts of Odisha. The impact has been particularly severe in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts, where several areas have suffered extensive damage.
Continuous rainfall has led to flooding in vulnerable areas, while landslides have disrupted road connectivity in hilly regions. The situation has raised concerns over the safety of residents and commuters in the affected districts.
Centre Assures Support for Relief Operations
With several areas affected by heavy rain and strong winds, rescue and relief operations are underway to provide assistance to people in distress. NDRF and SDRF teams are working to respond to emergencies and help affected residents.
The proposed visit by the central ministerial team is expected to help assess the extent of the damage and determine the additional assistance required by the affected states.
The Centre has assured full cooperation to the state governments in managing the situation and providing relief to cyclone-hit people.
