Police have so far arrested six persons in connection with the brutal killing of a youth near the Ramachandrapur bridge under Balianta police limits.

The case, which has triggered statewide outrage, came to light after videos of the incident went viral on social media. Police are reportedly questioning several more individuals based on the viral footage, and additional arrests are likely in the coming days.

Survivor Narrates Sequence of Events

The complainant woman recorded her statement before the police and described the horrifying experience in detail.

According to her, she and her friend were travelling towards her aunt’s house when they encountered two youths coming from the opposite direction towards Bhubaneswar. She stated that she had never seen the youths before.

“They suddenly shouted at us. When we turned back, they brought their bike close and hit our scooter. Both of us fell down,” she alleged.

The woman further claimed that one of the youths allegedly grabbed her by the neck and tore her dress. She and her friend screamed for help while the accused allegedly assaulted them.

Friend Beaten Unconscious During Incident

The survivor said the attackers brutally assaulted her friend, who eventually lost consciousness at the spot.

“My friend was beaten very badly. He became unconscious there itself,” she stated.

Hearing their cries, local residents rushed to the scene and rescued them from the attackers, she added.

Woman Appeals for Release of Villagers

The woman also stated that two youths had allegedly misbehaved with her and her companion. She credited the local residents for saving their lives.

She further claimed that the villagers did not kill the youth and alleged that police personnel were already present at the spot during the incident. The woman appealed to the Chief Minister to release the villagers who have been arrested in connection with the case.

Chief Minister Orders Detailed Investigation

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep concern over the incident. He reportedly spoke to Director General of Police Y. B. Khurania and directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

Youth Beaten to Death on Roadside

The incident occurred on Thursday near Ramachandrapur canal road under Balianta police station limits. Following allegations of misconduct with a woman after a road accident-related dispute, a youth was allegedly tied up and beaten mercilessly in public.

Another youth sustained critical injuries in the violence.

The incident has sparked widespread debate across Odisha, especially after reports claimed that police personnel were present at the scene but failed to rescue the victim in time. The brutal killing has now become a major law-and-order issue in the state.
