Bhakta Charan Das Calls for No-Confidence Motion Against BJP in Odisha Assembly

Congress President Pushes for Alliance on No-Confidence Motion

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das has stirred the political pot by urging both the Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to unite in tabling a no-confidence motion against the BJP government in the state assembly. Das made this appeal during a recent media interaction, citing women’s rights and poor governance as the central concerns.

Congress Ready to Move Independently if BJD Declines

While praising the BJD’s internal efforts on women’s issues, Das stated that if the BJD supports the cause, Congress would back a joint motion. However, if the ruling regional party does not respond positively, Congress is prepared to introduce the motion independently.

BJD Responds: No Formal Proposal Yet

BJD Vice President Devi Mishra responded cautiously, saying that the party has not received any formal notification about the motion. She reiterated the BJD’s consistent efforts toward women’s welfare and clarified that any decision would be taken only after internal legislative consultations.

Bhupinder Singh: Decision Lies with Naveen Patnaik

Senior BJD leader Bhupinder Singh stated that the party’s stance would be determined by party president and opposition leader Naveen Patnaik. He acknowledged that a no-confidence motion, if introduced, would intensify political pressure on the BJP government.

BJP Dismisses Motion as Political Stunt

BJP MLA Saroj Padhi outright rejected the call for a no-confidence motion, calling it “meaningless” and accusing the Congress of seeking relevance by aligning with the BJD. He claimed that the Congress holds no real influence in the current political scenario of Odisha.

Opposition Unity Builds Against BJP in Odisha

This development hints at a possible opposition realignment in Odisha, with shared concerns over women’s welfare and administrative issues forming the foundation of cooperation. While the situation remains fluid, the upcoming assembly sessions will determine whether the motion is formally introduced and how political alliances will take shape.
