Himanta Biswa Sarma to Take Oath as Chief Minister Again
After securing a massive victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bharatiya Janata Party) is all set to form the government in Assam for the third consecutive term. The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government will be held on Tuesday, May 12.
Himanta Biswa Sarma will take oath as Chief Minister for the second consecutive term amid grand celebrations in Guwahati.
Swearing-In Ceremony Venue and Timing
The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati, at 11:40 AM on Tuesday. Preparations for the grand event are in the final stage.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Top BJP and NDA Leaders to Attend
The event is expected to witness the presence of several top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from various BJP and NDA-ruled states are also expected to attend the ceremony.
Religious Leaders and Party Workers to Participate
According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, several prominent personalities from the industrial sector and religious leaders known as “Satradhikars” will also attend the event to bless the new government.
Thousands of BJP workers, from booth-level presidents to senior party leaders, are expected to be present during the swearing-in ceremony.
Cabinet Formation Yet to Be Finalised
Speaking about the new cabinet, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the names of ministers have not been finalised yet. The final decision is expected to be taken on Monday night after discussions with BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati in the evening.
The Assam cabinet can have a maximum of 19 ministers. The party leadership is expected to decide whether to include new faces or retain experienced leaders in the ministry.
Commitment Towards Development
Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the people of Assam have given the BJP-led NDA government a clear mandate. He assured that the new government would work responsibly for the welfare and overall development of the state over the next five years.
“We will continue to work with dedication and responsibility for the all-round development of Assam,” he said.
