Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday inaugurated the newly re-developed and modernised Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar, positioning it as a state-of-the-art ecosystem for film production and post-production.
The inauguration also marked the launch of a dedicated film archive and museum at the studio aimed at preserving Odisha’s rich cinematic heritage.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The revamped Kalinga Studio has been developed as a self-contained film ecosystem equipped with modern facilities, including indoor shooting floors, a snow house, chroma floors, a tech zone, sound recording, dubbing, editing and post-production facilities.
The Chief Minister said Odia filmmakers would no longer need to travel to other states for technical requirements, as the upgraded studio now offers several world-class facilities. He added that more advanced facilities would be introduced in the future.
Focus on Odisha’s Stories and Heritage
Recalling the rich history of Odia cinema, Majhi highlighted the close relationship between literature and films through classics such as Maa, Amadabata and Matira Manisha.
He urged young filmmakers to create movies based on original stories, folklore, history and Odisha’s cultural heritage. He said the new Kalinga Studio would provide a major platform for the state’s talented youth working in acting, direction, cinematography, animation, sound design and digital storytelling.
Film Archive and Museum
The newly established archive and museum will preserve old films, posters, photographs and historical documents related to Odisha’s cinematic journey.
Industry, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the re-developed studio has been designed to meet requirements from film production to post-production. He described the film industry as a major economic ecosystem beyond entertainment.
During the event, the Chief Minister also unveiled the new official portal of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC).
Several legislators and senior officials, including Babu Singh, Sidhant Mohapatra, Akash Das Nayak, Hemant Sharma and Kalinga Studio Managing Director Surendra Kumar Panda, attended the programme.
