Create Fear Among Criminals, Become Friends of Common People: CM Mohan Majhi to Odisha Police

CM Mohan Majhi Directs Odisha Police to Intensify Crackdown on Organized Crime, Sand Mafia and Strengthen Public Trust

CM Reviews Odisha’s Law and Order Situation

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday directed the state police administration to create fear among criminals while building trust and friendly relations with common citizens. During a high-level review meeting on the state’s law and order situation, the Chief Minister emphasized proactive policing, stronger intelligence gathering, strict patrolling, and coordinated action against organized crime.

The meeting was attended by senior administrative officials, top police officers, district collectors, and SPs from across the state.

Police Must Earn Public Trust

Addressing the officials, the Chief Minister said the police force should function in a way that makes ordinary citizens feel safe and confident while ensuring criminals remain fearful of the law.

He stressed that maintaining good relations with the public would help the police receive timely information regarding criminal activities, enabling them to take preventive action before crimes occur.

“The police should become trustworthy friends of the public and at the same time create fear among criminals,” the Chief Minister said during the review.

Focus on Crime Mapping and Intelligence Collection

CM Majhi directed the police department to strengthen crime mapping and intelligence collection systems across districts. He said identifying crime-prone areas and analyzing patterns of criminal activity would help authorities take proactive measures.

He also highlighted the importance of gathering local intelligence inputs and improving coordination between police and administrative officials at the district level.

According to the Chief Minister, teamwork between district administrations and police authorities is essential for effective crime prevention and law enforcement.

Strict Patrolling Ordered Across the State

The Chief Minister instructed officials to intensify police patrolling throughout Odisha. He said visible police presence in public places would not only deter criminals but also improve public confidence in the administration.

He noted that stronger patrolling systems can significantly reduce the chances of criminal activities and help maintain peace and order.

Crackdown on Organized Crime and Sand Mafia

During the meeting, CM Majhi directed the police administration to completely eliminate organized crime networks in the state. Referring to Odisha’s success in controlling Maoist activities, he said similar action should now be taken against illegal sand mafia operations.

He asked police officials to take strict legal action against criminal elements and reduce the possibility of crimes through preventive measures and early intervention.

District Officials Asked to Submit Regular Reports

The Chief Minister advised district collectors and SPs to regularly review the law and order situation in their respective districts and submit reports to the Director General of Police, Home Department officials, and the Chief Secretary.

He also directed the Chief Secretary to keep him regularly informed about the law and order situation across Odisha.

Odisha Police Praised for Improved Conviction Rate

While reviewing the overall performance of the police force, the Chief Minister acknowledged that Odisha Police has achieved significant success in several areas.

He praised the improved investigation system under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has reportedly increased the conviction rate in criminal cases. He also appreciated the police force for its successful anti-Naxal operations.

However, he emphasized that in today’s modern era, policing must become more innovative and technology-driven to effectively tackle evolving criminal activities.
