Debrigarh Sanctuary is situated near Sambalpur town, District headquarter and one major town of Odisha. Sanctuary is 40 kms away from Sambalpur with black top road. Sambalpur is 320 kms away from State capital Bhubaneswar .Sambalpur is well connected with Howrah, Bhubaneswar. The state highway from Bhubaneswar to Sambalpur and NH from Calcutta to Mumbai passes through Sambalpur. There is rail connectivity from Bhubaneswar and Howrah and super fast express trains are available. Jharsuguda is 40 kms from Sambalpur and on the main railway line between Howrah to Mumbai.
Debrigarh Sanctuary is famous for wild animal sighting. There are Elephant, Leopard, Bear, Sambar , Spotted deer , Chousinga , Wild boar, Percupine, Civet cat, Fishing cat , Jackle, Fox , Haeyna , Wild dog, Wolf,Rabit , Python , Peacock etc sighted in the Sanctuary. Elephants normally resides in the core area where tourist are not allowed but they are visible once they move towards tourist area. Leopard is sighted by the visitors but you need some luck. Other animals are sighted in plenty numbers. The timing is 5.00 am to 8.00 am and 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm . The visitors are allowed inside Sanctuary from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm. For better sighting 20 vehicle are allowed per day. During Summer a number of ground nesting birds are found in the month of April and May. Similarly from November to February 50- 60 variety of migratory birds are found in the Hirakud Reservoir.
One forest road runs along the reservoir on the south and visitors are allowed upto 16 kms on this road where they can sight the animals. There is limited boating facility available on advance booking basis at site. There are watch towers from where the scenic view of reservoir and forest available. One walking trail over 4.2 kms and one tracking path over 6 kms are other attraction for the visitor.
