The impact of the prevailing low-pressure system continues to be felt across Odisha, with Balasore witnessing intermittent rainfall since morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for the district for both Thursday and Friday, cautioning residents about continued rainfall.
According to official data, 16 mm of rainfall was recorded in Balasore district till 8:00 am on Thursday.
The persistent drizzle has disrupted normal life in the town. Commercial areas and markets witnessed thin crowds as continuous rain kept people indoors. Vehicular movement on major roads was also noticeably lower than usual.
The rainfall has exposed the poor condition of several city roads, with waterlogging reported in potholes and low-lying stretches. The accumulated rainwater has made commuting difficult, especially for two-wheeler riders, increasing the risk of accidents in several parts of the town.
Residents have also raised concerns over inadequate drainage, with stagnant water creating unhygienic conditions in some localities. Locals have urged the administration to take immediate steps to improve the drainage system and repair damaged roads before the situation worsens.
The IMD has forecast that rainfall is likely to continue over the next 24 hours under the influence of the low-pressure system. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and follow weather advisories issued by the administration.
With more rainfall expected, civic agencies have been asked to stay on alert to prevent waterlogging and ensure public safety across the district.
