ED Conducts Raids at Nine Locations in Odisha SI Recruitment Scam

ED searches premises linked to Munna Mahanty, Shankar Prusty and Suresh Nayak as investigators probe suspected money laundering and crores of rupees in transactions in the Odisha Police SI recruitment scam.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting searches at nine locations in connection with the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam, focusing on suspected financial irregularities and alleged money laundering linked to the case.

The raids are being carried out at several locations, including the residence of Munna Mahanty, who is currently lodged in jail in connection with the scam, in Kalapathar under Banki. The ED is also searching the premises of Shankar Prusty, associated with Panch Soft, and Suresh Nayak of Silicon Tech. Searches are also underway in Defence Colony on the outskirts of Berhampur.

The agency is investigating suspected illegal financial transactions after allegations emerged that crores of rupees had changed hands in connection with the recruitment scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also been investigating the case and has filed charge sheets against several accused persons.

SI Recruitment Exam Cancelled Twice

The Odisha Police SI recruitment examination was initially scheduled for March 2025. However, reports of a question paper leak surfaced ahead of the examination, forcing the authorities to cancel it.

The examination was subsequently scheduled to be held again in October, but fresh allegations of a question paper leak emerged, leading to another cancellation. The repeated disruptions left thousands of aspirants disappointed and uncertain about their recruitment prospects.

The investigation led to the arrest of 114 candidates, along with alleged key figures linked to the paper leak network. Shankar Prusty, Munna Mahanty and Suresh Nayak were among the prominent accused named in connection with the alleged scam.

Alleged Paper Leak Network Under Scanner

Investigators have been examining the alleged methods used to circulate question papers before the examination. The investigation also brought attention to the alleged links with the Vijayawada–Vizianagaram and Digha routes or networks associated with the case.

The ED’s latest searches are aimed at tracing suspected proceeds of crime and examining financial transactions linked to the accused. Further details about the searches and any fresh seizures or arrests are awaited.

The case has raised serious concerns over the integrity of the recruitment process and the impact of repeated examination cancellations on aspiring police personnel.
