A tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district has claimed the lives of three members of a family following an alleged dispute over an iPhone.
The incident took place at Khavda Dongar in Tisgaon along the Solapur-Dhule highway. According to reports, a young man identified as Kunal climbed to the edge of the hill after an argument with his parents over an iPhone and threatened to end his life.
The incident reportedly began around 10 am. For nearly three hours, his parents, local residents and tourists tried to persuade him to move away from the edge. Police and fire service personnel also reached the spot and attempted to assist in the rescue operation.
Father Falls While Trying to Save Son
As the situation continued, Kunal’s father, Muralidhar, climbed up the hill to bring his son back safely. When Kunal moved towards the edge, his father reportedly tried to grab him and pull him away.
However, around 1 pm, both lost their balance and fell from the hill. Despite efforts at the site, both died in the incident.
The tragedy took another devastating turn when Kunal’s mother, Sangeeta, reportedly jumped from the hill after witnessing her husband and son fall, resulting in her death as well.
Rescue Efforts Fail
Firefighters reportedly attempted to place a safety net below the hill to prevent a fatal fall. However, Kunal kept changing his position near the edge, making the rescue attempt difficult.
Videos recorded by people present at the location have surfaced on social media, reportedly showing the moments surrounding the incident. The footage has since spread widely online.
According to officials, the dispute over an iPhone preceded the young man’s actions. Local villagers, police and fire personnel had gathered at the spot and made repeated efforts to prevent the tragedy.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The case has once again highlighted the need for timely intervention and professional support when someone shows signs of suicidal distress.
