According to Iranian state media, US forces launched overnight airstrikes targeting five bridges, a railway station, and an airport in Iran. The attacks reportedly killed at least seven civilians in Tehran and caused extensive damage to transport and public infrastructure. Explosions were also reported in several southern cities and islands, including Ahvaz, Qeshm, Bushehr, Sirik, Bandar-e-Lengeh, and Bandar-e-Khamir, where multiple bridges were damaged and power outages occurred.

The latest strikes are believed to be part of Washington’s efforts to increase pressure on Tehran over its control and military activities around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route.

Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities and allied positions across the Middle East. Reports said missiles were launched toward American bases in neighbouring countries, including a recently expanded airbase in Jordan. Iran also warned that it would intensify attacks using advanced missile systems if military operations against it continue.

Amid the escalating conflict, Qatar urged its residents to seek shelter after Iranian drone activity in the region, with reports indicating that a child was injured in one of the attacks. Qatar, along with Pakistan, has been attempting to mediate between Washington and Tehran, but diplomatic efforts have reportedly failed.

The US Central Command said its operations targeted Iranian military infrastructure, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance facilities, logistics centres and strategic military assets.

More than 50,000 US troops remain deployed across the Middle East. Iranian authorities claim that over 40 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in US strikes since the conflict escalated. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Iran has also asked Yemen’s Houthi rebels to remain prepared to disrupt shipping routes in the Red Sea if hostilities continue.

The ongoing conflict has raised fears of a wider regional war, with global attention focused on the security of vital energy routes and the possibility of further military escalation.

According to police, the recovery was made during a special search operation launched after surrendered Maoists provided detailed information about the location of the concealed arms dump. Acting on the intelligence, security personnel raided the forest area and unearthed a large quantity of weapons and explosives.

The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) safely defused the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bombs at the spot to eliminate any threat.

Kanker Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha said the operation was carried out based on actionable inputs provided by former Maoists who had surrendered. He added that the forest region has long been used by Maoist cadres to hide arms and explosives for future attacks on security forces.

Among the items seized were a .303 rifle magazine, 30 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four rounds of SLR ammunition, 10 BGL (Barrel Grenade Launcher) launchers, pipe bombs, and a 3-kg tiffin bomb, along with other explosive materials.

Police believe the weapons and explosives had been stockpiled to target security personnel operating in the region.

Security forces have intensified search operations in the forest to locate any additional arms dumps and to prevent Maoist activities in the border region.

On Thursday, Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosha had stopped near the Singhadwara (Lion’s Gate) of the Shree Jagannath Temple. Lord Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja had halted near the Fire Station, while Goddess Subhadra’s Darpadalana remained stationed near Marichi Kote Chhak after the day’s procession was suspended.

Despite the halt, thousands of devotees stayed on the Grand Road throughout the night, offering prayers and receiving darshan of the deities seated on their chariots. All scheduled morning rituals and ceremonial practices were completed before the chariots resumed their journey towards Sharadhabali, near the Gundicha Temple.

The atmosphere on the Grand Road turned deeply devotional as chants of “Jai Jagannath” echoed through the air. The sounds of bells, conches, cymbals, devotional songs, and traditional ululation filled the sacred avenue as devotees enthusiastically pulled the chariots with the holy ropes.

For many pilgrims, participating in the second phase of the Gundicha Yatra was an emotional and spiritual experience. Some were seen shedding tears of devotion, while others offered full prostrations before the Lord, expressing their faith and gratitude.

Devotees continued to pull the chariots towards the Gundicha Temple, where the deities will remain on the chariots to bless devotees from Sharadhabali later in the day. The ceremonial Adapa Bije, during which the deities enter the Gundicha Temple, is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Shree Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee confirmed the schedule and stated that the previous day’s chariot pulling had been stopped following the recommendation of the Bhoi Sardar because of poor visibility after nightfall.

Despite adverse weather conditions during this year’s Rath Yatra, an estimated 10 to 12 lakh devotees gathered in Puri, reflecting the immense religious significance and enduring appeal of the annual festival.

Despite the southwest monsoon covering the entire country, water storage levels in India’s major reservoirs remain significantly below capacity, raising concerns over water availability for agriculture, drinking water supply, and hydropower generation.

According to the latest data released by the Central Water Commission (CWC), the country’s 155 major reservoirs currently hold only 58.85 billion cubic metres (BCM) of water, which is 32.38% of their total live storage capacity of 181.74 BCM. This means nearly 68% of the storage capacity remains unfilled even as the monsoon season reaches its midpoint.

Experts attribute the low storage levels to below-normal rainfall across several parts of north, central, and western India. Reduced rainfall has led to lower river inflows, limiting the amount of water entering reservoirs. Although some regions have received good rainfall, it has not been sufficient to significantly improve the country’s overall water storage.

Reservoirs play a crucial role in ensuring drinking water supply, irrigation for agriculture, and hydroelectric power generation. Experts have warned that if rainfall does not improve in the coming weeks, the low storage levels could affect Kharif crop cultivation, urban and rural water supply, and electricity production.

The Central Water Commission said it is continuously monitoring reservoir levels across the country. Officials expressed hope that the situation could improve if rainfall intensifies over the next few weeks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increased rainfall in several parts of the country in the coming days, which is expected to boost inflows into reservoirs. However, water experts have stressed the need for careful water conservation and efficient management until storage levels improve.

The current situation highlights the importance of prudent water use, particularly during the monsoon season, as reservoir storage remains a key indicator of the country’s water security for the months ahead.

The wounded officers were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Following the attacks, security forces launched a massive search operation in both areas. Officials said the affected locations have been cordoned off, and efforts are underway to track down those responsible for the attacks.

The twin assaults highlight the continuing security challenges in Pakistan’s northwestern region, where the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has intensified attacks on security forces in recent months.
The incidents are among the latest in a series of attacks targeting law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, underscoring the volatile security situation in the region.

Lakhs of devotees thronged the Bada Danda (Grand Road) to witness the Holy Trinity leave the sanctum of the Jagannath Temple and proceed towards their majestic chariots.

The procession began with Lord Balabhadra, followed by Goddess Subhadra, while Lord Jagannath emerged last from the Ratna Singhasana. Amid the resonating sounds of ghanta (bells), kahali (traditional trumpets) and continuous chants of “Jai Jagannath” and “Hari Bol,” the entire pilgrim town reverberated with spiritual fervour.

As Lord Jagannath moved gracefully in the traditional swaying style of Pahandi, adorned with the iconic Tahia headgear, devotees erupted in joy. Despite intermittent rain and heavy crowds, thousands patiently waited for a glimpse of the Lord, believing that witnessing the Pahandi brings immense spiritual blessings.

Temple servitors carefully escorted the deities towards their respective chariots, with Lord Jagannath making his way to the Nandighosa chariot. The ceremonial procession, accompanied by traditional music and devotional performances, transformed the Grand Road into a sea of humanity.

For devotees, Rath Yatra is more than a religious festival—it is a rare occasion when the Lord steps out of the temple to bless everyone, irrespective of caste, creed, or social status. Many devotees were seen praying with folded hands, while others struggled through the crowd for a closer view or to touch the sacred chariot ropes.

The emotional atmosphere was marked by tears of devotion, chants of faith, and an overwhelming sense of spiritual unity. As the Holy Trinity reached their chariots, the sacred spectacle once again reaffirmed Rath Yatra’s status as one of the world’s largest and most cherished religious festivals, drawing millions of devotees to the abode of Lord Jagannath.
