Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s relationship began during a television commercial shoot in 2013 and gradually turned into one of India’s most admired celebrity love stories. What began as a casual meeting on the sets of a television commercial gradually turned into one of India’s most celebrated celebrity relationships.

Despite facing intense public scrutiny and online trolling over the years, the couple stood by each other and eventually built a happy married life together.

First Meeting on a Commercial Shoot in 2013

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma first met in 2013 during the shooting of a shampoo brand television commercial.

At the time, Virat was already emerging as one of India’s biggest cricket stars known for his aggressive style of play, while Anushka had established herself as a successful Bollywood actress.

According to reports and past interviews, Virat was nervous during their first interaction. Anushka arrived confidently wearing high heels, prompting Virat to jokingly ask if she could not find even taller heels. The light-hearted joke reportedly broke the ice between them and started their first conversation.

Over the three-day shoot, the two reportedly discussed their personal lives, struggles, and journeys to success. Coming from relatively simple family backgrounds, they gradually developed a strong connection.

Friendship Slowly Turned Into Love

Their friendship soon grew into a romantic relationship. Rumours about the couple first began circulating in 2014 after reports claimed Virat visited Anushka’s apartment following India’s South Africa tour.

Soon, pictures and videos of the two together began going viral on social media, attracting massive public attention.

In November 2014, the couple made one of their earliest public appearances together. During a match against Sri Lanka, Virat scored a half-century and famously blew a flying kiss toward Anushka sitting in the stands, making their relationship even more public.

Later, Virat openly stated that they never tried to hide their relationship and were simply two young people in love.

Supporting Each Other Despite Busy Careers

Despite their demanding professional schedules, the couple continued making time for each other.

Virat was often spotted visiting Anushka on film sets, while Anushka regularly attended cricket matches to cheer for him from the stands.

Their relationship gradually became stronger, with fans admiring the way both supported each other’s careers and personal lives.

Couple Faced Heavy Online Trolling

However, life in the public eye was not always easy for the celebrity couple.

During phases when Virat struggled with form on the cricket field, Anushka often became the target of online trolling and criticism. Social media users unfairly blamed her for Virat’s poor performances, with some even calling her “bad luck” for the cricketer.

The trolling became especially intense during 2015 and 2016, when Anushka faced several misogynistic comments and personal attacks online.

Despite the negativity, Virat publicly defended Anushka on multiple occasions and criticised people targeting her unfairly. Over time, their relationship became an example of mutual support and resilience in the face of public pressure.

Amid rising petrol and diesel prices, concerns have started growing among consumers over a possible increase in the prices of essential commodities such as edible oil, rice, pulses, and other daily-use items. However, traders have assured that there is no immediate reason for panic.

Responding to public concerns, Malgodown Traders’ Association General Secretary Prafulla Chhatoi said there is sufficient stock of essential commodities in warehouses and no shortage situation exists in the market.

According to him, the current stock available in Malgodown warehouses is enough to meet demand for at least the next two months.

Essential Goods Supply Remains Normal

Prafulla Chhatoi stated that essential commodities are continuing to arrive in the market regularly as per demand and the recent fuel price hike has not affected warehouse operations or commodity supply.

He clarified that all major food items, including rice, pulses, and edible oil, are adequately stocked in warehouses across the state.

Although business activity has increased slightly due to public concern, he said the situation remains completely normal and under control.

No Rise in Edible Oil Prices

Rejecting rumours of a spike in edible oil prices, the traders’ association said cooking oil prices have actually reduced in recent weeks.

Chhatoi said there has been no increase in edible oil prices due to petrol or diesel price hikes. Instead, prices have been gradually declining compared to previous rates.

He added that fuel price hikes alone would not lead to an increase in essential commodity prices unless the central government imposes higher import duties on such goods.

Traders Prepared to Handle Panic Buying

The association also said it is fully prepared to manage the situation if panic buying similar to fuel station rushes occurs in the market.

Strict monitoring is being carried out over warehouses and supply chains to ensure uninterrupted availability of commodities.

Chhatoi explained that minor fluctuations in the prices of pulses and some food items are routine market trends and should not be linked to the recent fuel price increase.

Public Urged Not to Panic

The traders’ association appealed to consumers and retailers not to panic or purchase goods in excess quantity.

“There is neither a shortage of commodities nor any major price rise. People should avoid unnecessary panic buying,” the association secretary said.

Traders further assured that adequate stock is available and the supply system remains stable across markets.

People living in the national capital are facing another wave of fuel price hikes as the cost of CNG, petrol, and diesel has increased sharply in Delhi. The latest revision, which came into effect on Sunday, has added further pressure on daily commuters, auto drivers, taxi operators, and private vehicle owners.

CNG Price Increased for Second Time in Two Days

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi have been increased by Rs 1 per kilogram, marking the second revision within the last two days.

Following the latest hike, the price of CNG in New Delhi has reached Rs 80.09 per kilogram. In nearby cities such as Noida and Ghaziabad, consumers will now have to pay Rs 88.70 per kilogram.

Earlier, on May 15, CNG prices had already been increased by Rs 2 per kilogram. The repeated hike is expected to significantly impact the operating costs of auto-rickshaws, taxis, and commercial transport vehicles.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Also See Major Increase

Along with CNG, petrol and diesel prices in the national capital have also witnessed a major increase.

Petrol prices in Delhi have risen by Rs 3 per litre, moving from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre. Similarly, diesel prices have gone up by Rs 3 per litre, increasing from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre.

The continuous rise in transport fuel prices is likely to increase travel expenses as well as the overall cost of living for common citizens.

Middle East Conflict Affecting Global Oil Supply

The recent fuel price hikes are being linked to disruptions in global crude oil supply caused by the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in West Asia.

The conflict, which reportedly intensified from February 28 this year, has affected international oil supply chains, leading to a sharp rise in crude oil prices worldwide.

As a result, Brent crude oil prices have crossed the 100 US dollar per barrel mark, putting additional pressure on fuel pricing in several countries, including India.

Following a sharp rise in infections in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, WHO has declared the outbreak a “global health emergency” amid fears that the virus could spread across borders to other countries.

Health agencies and neighbouring nations have intensified surveillance and emergency preparedness measures as concerns grow over a potentially dangerous new strain of the virus.

Ebola Outbreak Worsens in Congo

The Ebola outbreak has created panic in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the eastern Ituri province. According to Congo’s Health Ministry, at least 80 people have died due to the virus.

Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba said laboratory tests conducted on Thursday confirmed eight Ebola cases linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus in the health zones of Rwampara, Mongwalu, and Bunia.

The ministry further stated that a total of 246 suspected Ebola cases have been reported so far.

Nurse Among Suspected Victims

Among the suspected cases was a nurse working at the Evangelical Medical Centre in Bunia. Officials said the healthcare worker died after suffering symptoms including fever, bleeding, vomiting, and extreme weakness.

Authorities are now tracing contacts and increasing testing efforts in affected regions to contain the spread of the disease.

South Sudan Activates Emergency Response

Neighbouring South Sudan has also gone on high alert following the outbreak in Congo.

The South Sudanese government announced that it has activated its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in response to the situation. Surveillance systems, laboratory testing, and border monitoring have been strengthened, while teams of healthcare workers have been directed to remain prepared for rapid response.

African Nations Hold Emergency Meeting

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said an emergency meeting has been convened with Congo, Uganda, South Sudan, and global health partners to strengthen cross-border surveillance, preparedness, and response measures.

The agency stated that most deaths and suspected cases have been reported from Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones. At least four deaths have already been confirmed among laboratory-tested Ebola patients.

Suspected cases have also been reported in Bunia, the provincial capital, raising fears of wider transmission.

Concerns Grow Over Possible New Ebola Strain

Health experts are increasingly concerned about the possibility of a new Ebola strain being involved in the outbreak.

According to preliminary investigations, the virus does not appear to belong to the Zaire strain, which has caused most of Congo’s previous Ebola outbreaks. Further genetic sequencing is currently underway to identify the exact characteristics of the virus.

Renowned Congolese virologist Jean-Jacques Muyembe told Reuters that nearly all of Congo’s previous 16 Ebola outbreaks were linked to the Zaire strain, except one.

Experts warned that the emergence of a different strain could complicate the response effort, as existing vaccines and treatments were mainly developed for the Zaire variant of Ebola.

According to weather forecasts, the monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by May 26.

At the same time, weather experts have warned that a possible “Super El Niño” condition may become active by June or July, which could significantly affect India’s monsoon rainfall this year.

‘Super El Niño’ May Trigger Drought-Like Conditions

Meteorological analysts have cautioned that the development of El Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean may reduce rainfall during the monsoon season in India. The four-month monsoon season contributes nearly 70 percent of the country’s annual rainfall and plays a crucial role in agriculture, crop production, water reservoirs, and the overall economy.

This year, India may receive below-normal rainfall, raising fears of drought-like conditions in several regions. The country is expected to receive around 80 cm of rainfall during the monsoon season, lower than the long-term seasonal average of 87 cm.

Rainfall Likely to Decline in August and September

According to weather analysis agencies, rainfall during June may remain near normal. However, a significant decline in rainfall is expected during August and September due to strengthening El Niño conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier indicated that neutral conditions over the equatorial Pacific Ocean are gradually shifting toward El Niño conditions, which generally lead to reduced rainfall across India.

Heatwave Conditions Intensify in Odisha

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions have intensified across Odisha, with temperatures likely to rise by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, according to the Meteorological Department.

The petrol and diesel supply situation in Odisha is gradually returning to normal, especially in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, after days of panic buying triggered heavy rush at fuel stations. Long queues that were witnessed over the past few days have now largely disappeared, bringing relief to both consumers and fuel dealers.

Situation Expected to Normalize Within 2–3 Days

Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association General Secretary Sanjay Lath said the fuel supply situation across the state would become completely normal within the next two to three days.

According to him, fuel sales in the last five days were equivalent to nearly 15 days of regular consumption due to panic among the public. Despite the sudden surge in demand, he assured that Odisha has sufficient fuel stock available and there is no need for concern.

He stated that fuel business may remain slightly affected for another four to five days, but by tomorrow evening most petrol pumps are expected to have adequate stock.

Panic Buying Led to Artificial Fuel Crisis

Sanjay Lath explained that rumours regarding a possible fuel shortage had created panic among vehicle owners across the state. As a result, consumers who usually purchased fuel worth Rs 100 to Rs 200 began filling their tanks completely.

This sudden spike in demand created an artificial fuel crisis at several petrol pumps, leading to long queues and temporary shortages in some areas.

He clarified that Odisha generally maintains fuel reserves sufficient for 13 to 17 days and currently has adequate stock to meet public demand.

Action Against Dealers Hoarding Fuel

The association also warned that strict action would be taken against any fuel dealers found withholding sales despite having sufficient stock.

Sanjay Lath said oil companies would take necessary action against such dealers based on complaints received from the public or authorities.

Fuel Stations in Cuttack Back to Normal

The situation in Cuttack has also improved significantly. Petrol pumps across the city witnessed normal operations on Sunday, with no unusually long queues seen outside fuel stations.

Vehicle owners were seen purchasing fuel as usual, while petrol pump employees confirmed that there is adequate stock of petrol and diesel available.

Even though it was a weekend, fuel tankers continued arriving from depots on Saturday and Sunday, ensuring uninterrupted supply to the outlets.
