Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Chairman Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Friday laid the foundation stone for a major six-lane road connecting Guru Kelucharan Park with Patia Railway Station.
The 45-metre-wide Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) road is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in northern Bhubaneswar. The proposed road will be 2.387 km long and pass through Patia, Chandrasekharpur and Gadakana mouzas.
The road will provide an important link to Patia Railway Station under the Right Side Road Network (RSRN) and offer an alternative route for commuters travelling along the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan corridor.
The project will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹55.85 crore and is scheduled for completion within 18 months. The six-lane road will include modern infrastructure such as street lighting, footpaths, a dedicated utility corridor and drainage facilities.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Minister Mahapatra said the project would significantly improve traffic movement and help reduce congestion on the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan road. It would also ensure smoother movement for passengers travelling to and from Patia Railway Station while benefiting residents of nearby areas.
North Bhubaneswar MLA Susant Kumar Rout, corporators Laxmipriya Parida and Sushama Sahoo, BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana and senior officials attended the event.
Later, Minister Mahapatra visited the Affordable Housing Project at Gadakana and reviewed its progress. Being implemented by BDA under the EPC mode, the project comprises 680 dwelling units and aims to strengthen affordable housing infrastructure in the city.
