Heavy rainfall continues across several parts of Odisha under the influence of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that similar weather conditions will persist across the state until tomorrow.
An orange warning has been issued for Kalahandi, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely during the next 24 hours. An orange warning has also been issued for Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Balangir districts for thunderstorms, lightning and intense weather activity.
The weather department has issued a yellow warning for gusty winds of 30 to 50 kmph during periods of rainfall. Along the Odisha coast, winds are expected to reach 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 60 kmph. Fishermen have therefore been advised not to venture into the sea today.
According to the weather department, rainfall activity is expected to decrease after September 12, with conditions gradually returning to normal.
Meanwhile, the Kalahandi district administration has announced the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres tomorrow in view of the persistent heavy rainfall. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and children amid the adverse weather conditions.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
