World Leaders to Gather in New Delhi This September
At a time when the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to impact global politics and economies, India is set to host one of the most significant international diplomatic events of the year. The 18th BRICS Summit will be held on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Several major world leaders are expected to participate in the summit, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Putin’s Participation Confirmed
Russia has officially confirmed President Putin’s participation in the two-day BRICS summit. According to reports, the confirmation came through the Russian Embassy in South Africa and was also acknowledged by Russian officials.
This will mark Putin’s second visit to India within a year. He had earlier visited India in December 2025 for the annual India-Russia summit.
Putin’s upcoming India visit is being viewed as strategically important amid continuing economic sanctions and diplomatic pressure imposed on Russia by Western countries. Analysts believe the visit highlights Moscow’s efforts to strengthen its global partnerships and strategic presence through forums like BRICS.
Xi Jinping’s Visit Highly Anticipated
Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi, according to media reports. His participation is considered one of the most closely watched aspects of the summit.
If confirmed, this would be Xi Jinping’s second visit to India since 2019, when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu for an informal summit.
India-China Relations Remain Sensitive
Relations between India and China have remained tense since the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020 and the border standoff in Tawang in December 2022.
Despite the tensions, Prime Minister Modi and Xi Jinping met during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, marking their first face-to-face interaction after the border disputes escalated.
Diplomatic observers believe the New Delhi summit could provide another opportunity for high-level discussions between the two Asian powers.
BRICS Summit Gains Global Importance
The upcoming BRICS Summit is expected to focus on global economic cooperation, geopolitical stability, trade partnerships and security challenges amid rising international conflicts.
With leaders from major emerging economies coming together in India, the summit is likely to play a crucial role in shaping global diplomatic and economic discussions in the coming months.
