Tensions in the Middle East have escalated further as Iran launched fresh missile and drone attacks targeting US military assets in the region, resulting in the deaths of two American soldiers and leaving several others injured, according to the US military.
The latest attack, allegedly carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), targeted a US military base in Jordan. The US military confirmed that two service members were killed, four others were seriously injured, and one American soldier remains missing following the assault.
In addition to the strike in Jordan, Iran reportedly targeted a fuel supply dock in Kuwait and destroyed a data centre in Bahrain, further expanding the scope of the ongoing conflict across the Middle East.
The latest casualties have pushed the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict began on February 28 to 16, while more than 430 American troops have been injured, according to official figures.
The US military said the attack involved a combination of missiles and drones, highlighting the increasing intensity and sophistication of Iran’s military operations. Search and rescue efforts are continuing for the missing soldier, while the injured have been shifted for medical treatment.
The conflict has continued to intensify in recent months, raising fears of a wider regional war involving multiple countries and military alliances. Security analysts warn that the latest attacks could trigger further retaliation and deepen instability across the Middle East.
US officials have not yet announced any immediate military response, but the Pentagon is closely monitoring the situation as tensions remain high.
