Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates Into Eighth Day; US Weighs Intervention as Civilian Casualties Mount

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran entered its eighth day on Thursday, marked by continued missile strikes and rising civilian tolls on both sides. According to sources, the war has reached a critical phase, drawing global attention as the United States considers possible military intervention.

Israeli Airstrikes Target Iranian Nuclear Sites

Israel launched a series of surprise airstrikes on Iranian military targets, including nuclear scientists and facilities. Among the key targets was the Arak heavy water reactor, located roughly 250 kilometers southwest of Tehran. Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed they had successfully neutralized several high-value installations around Tehran and other strategic regions in Iran, with an assertion that they had gained control of Iranian airspace.

Iran Responds with Counterstrikes

In retaliation, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli cities. One missile struck a major hospital in southern Israel, injuring dozens and severely damaging infrastructure. Another missile hit two high-rise buildings near Tel Aviv, resulting in at least 40 injuries. Iranian state television reported no casualties at the Arak reactor, claiming the facility was unoccupied at the time of the strike and there was no radiation threat.

Mounting Casualties and Civilian Impact

A Washington-based human rights group reported that Israeli airstrikes have led to the deaths of 639 people in Iran, including 263 civilians and 154 security officials. A further 1,329 individuals have been reported injured. Meanwhile, Iranian missile attacks on Israeli civilian zones continue to raise alarm.

Trump Hints at Possible US Military Action

In a press statement from the White House, President Donald Trump addressed the crisis with ambiguity, stating, “I may, I may not,” in response to questions about US intervention. Reports from Bloomberg indicate that both the US Navy and Air Force are on alert, preparing potential strategies for engagement. Speculations also emerged that Trump may have issued decentralized, informal authorizations for military actions in Iraq, although no formal orders have been confirmed.

Global Concerns and Diplomatic Tensions

Despite the escalation, Iran has reportedly reached out to the US for negotiations. However, Trump’s response remains unclear. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Iran has not requested military assistance from Moscow. In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed harsh retaliation, declaring that any nation or group attempting to harm Israel would face severe consequences.

As diplomatic channels remain strained, global leaders have urged restraint and called for a diplomatic resolution to avoid further humanitarian disasters and regional instability.
