Nuapada By-Election Heats Up, Jay Dholakia to Carry Father’s Torch for BJD

Jay Dholakia Announces BJD Candidacy for Nuapada By-Poll

Jay Dholakia, son of the late BJD legislator Rajendra Dholakia, has officially declared his intention to contest the upcoming Nuapada by-election on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket. Speaking to the media on Friday, Jay emphasized his loyalty to the party and firmly denied any links with opposition forces.

Full Support from Party Chief Naveen Patnaik

“I am doing so with the full consent of our party chief, Naveen Patnaik. I will be the BJD standard bearer, and our team has already started visits in Nuapada,” Jay stated.

He dismissed rumors suggesting outreach from the BJP, calling such reports fabricated. Jay also paid tribute to his late father:

“My father was a great asset to the polity, and he did it all for Biju Babu’s party. I am going to follow in his footsteps.”

By-Poll Triggered by Rajendra Dholakia’s Demise

The by-election became necessary following the death of Rajendra Dholakia. Sources indicate that the by-poll could be scheduled alongside the Bihar assembly elections, intensifying the political drama in the region.

Opposition Line-Up: BJP and Congress Prepare Candidates

The BJP is reportedly considering Abhinandan Panda, son of Basant Panda, while Congress has set its sights on Ghasiram Majhi.

Three-Way Contest Shaping Up in Western Odisha

Political analysts suggest that the Nuapada seat is likely to witness a three-way battle, with family legacy and regional influence playing key roles in determining the outcome. The BJD appears to be leveraging sympathy votes to strengthen Jay Dholakia’s candidacy.
