The land acquisition process for the proposed second campus of Khallikote University in Berhampur is yet to begin, despite a high-level meeting being held to discuss the expansion plan.
The meeting, chaired by Ganjam District Collector V. Keertivasan, was held on Saturday and focused on identifying a suitable location for the establishment of the university’s second campus.
Six Locations Under Consideration
Six locations—Pallur, Bendalia, Loudigaon, Sitalapalli, Balrampalli and Pallur Hills—have been identified for the proposed campus. Officials discussed the feasibility of acquiring land at these locations and other requirements related to the university’s expansion.
A proposal to transfer two acres of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) land located adjacent to the existing university campus was also discussed during the meeting.
Higher Secondary Wing Discussed
The meeting also considered the issue of separating the Higher Secondary wing from the existing university campus. Administrative officials, university authorities and local tehsildars participated in the discussions.
However, despite the discussions and identification of possible sites, the formal process for land acquisition is yet to commence.
Expansion Plan Awaits Progress
The delay in establishing the second campus has drawn attention as several other state universities have already expanded their infrastructure through additional campuses.
Second campuses of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur, Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar and Dharanidhar University in Keonjhar have already been established.
Against this backdrop, the proposed expansion of Khallikote University remains pending, with further progress dependent on land identification, acquisition and administrative decisions.
