Low Pressure Likely Over Bay of Bengal on October 13, Rain Alert Issued for 14 Odisha Districts

Cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand may trigger a low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal by October 13; IMD issues yellow warning for 14 Odisha districts, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, rain and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.

Odisha is likely to experience rainfall and gusty winds over the next two days under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand and adjoining areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13.

According to the weather department, the cyclonic circulation currently extends up to 9.4 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal after the system moves towards the Andaman Sea around October 11.

However, the IMD has not yet clarified whether the anticipated low-pressure system will intensify further.

Yellow Warning for 14 Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for 14 districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph during the next 24 hours.

The districts under the weather alert are Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

The weather department has indicated that coastal and interior districts may experience rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. While light to moderate showers are likely in several areas, isolated locations may receive heavy rainfall over the next two days.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning.

Low-Pressure System Expected by October 13

The developing weather system over the Gulf of Thailand and adjoining regions is expected to move towards the Andaman Sea by October 11. Subsequently, a low-pressure area may form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13.

The possible development of the system is being closely monitored. Its future movement and the likelihood of further intensification remain uncertain at this stage.

The formation of the low-pressure area could influence weather conditions over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions in the coming days.

No Major Change in Temperature Forecast

Meanwhile, the IMD has stated that there is unlikely to be any significant change in day and night temperatures across Odisha during the next seven days.

The southwest monsoon is also continuing its withdrawal from the state. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the withdrawal process is progressing through areas along the Sundargarh and Bargarh districts.

With the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and rainfall in several districts, residents are advised to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
