Lt. Gen. Narayan Mohanty Honored at Rashtrapati Bhavan for President’s Bodyguard Ceremony

Bhubaneswar: Lieutenant General Narayan Mohanty, a distinguished veteran (Retd) from Odisha, was accorded a special invitation to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, witnessing the prestigious Presentation of the President’s Standard of Bodyguard and Renewal of Regimental Standard of the President’s Bodyguard.

The ceremony marked the historic 250th anniversary of the regiment’s establishment, tracing its origins back to 1773 when it was founded as the Governor-General’s Bodyguard.

Lt. Gen. Mohanty, adorned with the PVSM, AVSM, and VSM honours, has a remarkable history of service, having served as a staff officer to two former Presidents, R. Venkatraman and Shankar Dayal Sharma. His significant contributions were recognized with the ‘National Outstanding Veterinary Award,’ bestowed upon him by the Union Minister of Animal Husbandry.

 

An alumnus of OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Lt. Gen. Mohanty, with graduate and postgraduate degrees in veterinary science, entered the Indian Army at the young age of 22. Rising to the coveted rank of Lt General, he was appointed as the first Director General of the RVC of the Indian Army. His pivotal role in operational planning and execution addressed serious security concerns with neighbouring countries.

Beyond military honours, Lt. Gen. Mohanty was honoured with the Pride of India award for his exceptional leadership. Engaged in philanthropic activities, he focuses on uplifting economically weaker sections of society. A Life Member of INTACH, Bhubaneswar Chapter, Lt. Gen. Mohanty continues to make significant contributions to various fields, embodying the spirit of service and commitment to the nation.
