Deadly Thunderstorm Wreaks Havoc Across Uttar Pradesh
A massive thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and dust storms has caused widespread devastation across Uttar Pradesh, leaving at least 104 people dead and over 52 injured. Hundreds of families were affected as houses collapsed, trees were uprooted, and normal life came to a standstill in several districts.
The storm continued from Wednesday morning till late night, triggering panic and destruction across the state.
CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Immediate Relief Measures
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to provide immediate assistance to affected families.
The Chief Minister instructed district administrations to ensure financial compensation reaches the families of the deceased within the next 24 hours. He also asked officials to speed up relief and rescue operations in affected regions.
Prayagraj Worst-Hit, Several Districts Report Heavy Casualties
According to Relief Commissioner Harikesh Bhaskar Yashod, Prayagraj district witnessed the highest number of deaths, with 21 people losing their lives.
Other badly affected districts include:
- Bhadohi – 18 deaths
- Mirzapur – 15 deaths
- Fatehpur – 10 deaths
- Unnao and Badaun – 6 deaths each
- Pratapgarh and Bareilly – 4 deaths each
- Sitapur, Raebareli and Chandauli – 2 deaths each
Officials said the death toll may rise further as rescue and assessment work continues.
Houses Destroyed, Trees Uprooted and Roads Blocked
The severe storm uprooted trees at hundreds of locations, disrupting transportation and communication services. Nearly 98 houses were completely damaged in the disaster, leaving many families homeless.
Authorities also confirmed the death of around 130 domestic animals due to the storm and lightning strikes.
Shocking Video Emerges From Bareilly
A disturbing video from Bareilly has gone viral showing the intensity of the storm. In the video, a man was reportedly lifted and thrown several feet away by the powerful winds.
Fortunately, locals rescued the injured man and shifted him to a hospital for treatment.
Weather Department Issues Further Alert
Officials said the extreme weather conditions were triggered by strong western disturbances affecting the region. The India Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert as similar weather conditions may continue over the next few days.
Residents in vulnerable districts have been asked to stay indoors during thunderstorms and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
Relief and Rescue Operations Continue
District administrations and disaster response teams are continuing relief work in affected areas. Efforts are underway to restore electricity, clear blocked roads, and provide shelter and food to affected families.
The Uttar Pradesh government has assured that all necessary support will be provided to victims of the disaster.
