Monsoon Advances Further in Odisha, Bringing Relief from Heat and Humidity

Southwest Monsoon Advances Through Balangir and Sundargarh, Moves Towards Jharkhand and Bihar

The weather pattern in Odisha has changed significantly as the southwest monsoon has become active across the state, bringing much-needed relief from intense heat and humidity. Several parts of Odisha witnessed light rainfall since Monday morning, providing comfort to residents.

The southwest monsoon advanced further through Balangir and Sundargarh districts of Odisha on June 22, 2026, and has also entered some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. The monsoon movement is now considered smooth and favourable across Odisha.

Rainfall Brings Relief Across the State

Several areas, including Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, received light drizzle during the morning hours. The rainfall has brought a major respite for people who were struggling with hot and uncomfortable weather conditions.

Weather experts said that the remaining parts of Odisha are also likely to come under the influence of monsoon within the next 48 hours as atmospheric conditions remain favourable.

Orange Alert Issued for Three Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for several districts of Odisha.

Heavy rainfall is likely in Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput districts today, following which an Orange Warning has been issued for these three districts.

All other districts of the state have been placed under a Yellow Warning for the day.

Yellow Alert Continues for Next Four Days

The Meteorological Department has predicted monsoon rainfall activity across Odisha from June 23 to June 26. A Yellow Warning will remain in effect across the state during this period.

According to weather scientists, the monsoon is expected to cover all remaining areas of Odisha completely within the next two days.

Hope for Farmers

Although forecasts suggest that rainfall this year may remain slightly below normal, the arrival of monsoon showers has brought fresh hope among farmers.

The timely rainfall is expected to support agricultural activities and provide relief to farming communities across the state.
