Odisha Leads Nation in Affordable Urban Housing
Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in India in the completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), marking a major achievement in the affordable housing sector.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state has consistently maintained the number one position in house completion performance from March 2025 to March 2026 since the launch of PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024.
Officials said the achievement reflects Odisha’s strong commitment towards the vision of “Housing for All” and inclusive urban development.
Over 24,000 Houses Sanctioned Under PMAY-U 2.0
According to official data, a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha.
Out of these, 23,464 proposed housing sites have already been geo-tagged for monitoring and implementation purposes.
Foundation work has begun for 3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses have already been completed as of May 5, 2026.
The remaining houses are currently under different stages of construction, and the state government has expressed confidence in meeting all targets within the stipulated timeline.
Grassroots Implementation Drives Success
Officials attributed Odisha’s strong performance to effective coordination between the Housing & Urban Development Department and Urban Local Bodies across the state.
The government said continuous monitoring, speedy implementation and grassroots-level execution have played a crucial role in accelerating housing construction under the scheme.
The PMAY-U 2.0 initiative aims to provide affordable and dignified housing to economically weaker urban families and improve living standards in urban areas.
Minister Directs Officials to Accelerate Construction
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has instructed officials to further speed up construction activities and ensure early completion of the remaining targets.
The minister emphasized the importance of timely execution, quality construction and faster delivery of housing benefits to eligible urban poor families across Odisha.
He also urged field-level officials to maintain strict monitoring of project implementation to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Focus on Inclusive Urban Development
The state government said Odisha’s continued success under PMAY-U 2.0 reflects its focused approach toward inclusive urban growth and social welfare.
Officials believe the scheme is helping transform the lives of thousands of urban families by providing secure housing and improved civic living conditions.
With Odisha leading the country in PMAY-U 2.0 house completion performance, the government aims to further strengthen its urban housing infrastructure in the coming years.
