Odisha Extends Deadline for Vehicle Documents Till February 1

Odisha extends vehicle document renewal deadline to February 1, easing compliance ahead of strict PUC checks during Road Safety Week

The Odisha government has announced an extension for vehicle owners to renew essential documents, including the Registration Certificate (RC), fitness certificate, Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, insurance papers, and other related documents. The new deadline has been set for February 1, 2026, giving vehicle owners an additional month to complete the necessary formalities.

Announcement by Transport Minister

Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena made the announcement following consultations with petrol dealers, oil companies, and transport officials. The extension aims to provide convenience to citizens, ensuring that vehicle owners have adequate time to update their documents without facing penalties or disruptions in daily activities.

PUC Checks at Petrol Pumps

From January 1, 2026, petrol pumps in Odisha were set to strictly enforce PUC certificate verification before dispensing fuel. Vehicles without a valid PUC certificate were not to receive petrol or diesel. This regulation coincides with Road Safety Week, underlining the government’s focus on promoting safer driving practices and controlling vehicle emissions across the state.

Reason for Extension

The decision to extend the deadline was taken to avoid inconveniencing the general public. Vehicle owners often face delays in document renewal due to busy schedules or administrative processes. By allowing an additional month, the government aims to prevent long queues at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and ensure smooth compliance with vehicle regulations.

Advice to Vehicle Owners

Authorities have urged all vehicle owners to complete renewals of RC, fitness, PUC, and insurance certificates as soon as possible. Timely renewal will prevent complications such as fuel denial at pumps, fines, or legal issues. Citizens are advised to take advantage of the extension and complete all necessary formalities well before the new deadline.

The Odisha government’s decision highlights its commitment to citizen convenience while promoting road safety and compliance with environmental regulations. Vehicle owners are encouraged to stay informed and ensure that all documents are updated promptly to avoid last-minute hassles.
