In a significant step aimed at strengthening the livelihood and welfare of kendu leaf pluckers, binders, and seasonal workers, the Odisha Government has disbursed a total of ₹41.17 crore from the Chief Minister’s Kendu Leaf Welfare Fund for the 2024 crop year and the 2025–26 financial year.
Major Assistance for Kendu Leaf Pluckers
As part of the welfare measures, 8,59,727 kendu leaf pluckers have received essential items to support their work. The government has transferred:

₹160 per unit for footwear

₹200 per unit for carry cloth

₹100 per unit for head caps
A total of ₹39,54,74,420 has been deposited directly into the accounts of kendu leaf pluckers. This financial support reflects the government’s deep respect for their hard work and valuable contribution to the state’s forest-based economy.
Support for Binders and Seasonal Staff
Additionally, 18,768 binders have been provided ₹700 per unit for blankets and mosquito nets, amounting to ₹1,31,37,600.
Similarly, 16,237 seasonal workers have received ₹100 per unit, totalling ₹16,23,700.
These contributions aim to improve their basic facilities and ensure a dignified working environment.
