Odisha Govt Announces 50% Relief on Pending E-Challans Under One-Time Settlement Scheme

One-Time Settlement Scheme to Help Clear Lakhs of Pending Traffic Cases

In a major relief for vehicle owners, the Odisha government has announced up to 50% waiver on pending traffic e-challans under a new One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. The decision aims to resolve long-pending cases and reduce the burden on courts.

Big Relief for Vehicle Owners

As per a notification issued by the state Home Department, citizens can settle their pending traffic fines at a reduced rate during the upcoming National Lok Adalat 2026. This move is expected to benefit thousands of vehicle owners struggling with unpaid challans.

One-Time Settlement Scheme Explained

Under the OTS scheme, individuals who have violated traffic rules can clear their dues by paying a reduced penalty. Once the fine is paid, the case will be considered fully settled.

If any challan-related case is currently pending in court, the prosecution report will be withdrawn after payment, ensuring a hassle-free resolution.

Easy Payment Options for Citizens

Vehicle owners can pay their pending challans through:

  • Online e-challan portal

  • Lok Adalat camps

The scheme is being implemented in accordance with guidelines from National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the state government.

Lakhs of Cases Pending in Odisha

Across India, over 30 lakh vehicle check reports remain pending, with nearly 7 lakh cases in Odisha alone. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce this backlog and ease judicial pressure.

More Lok Adalats to Be Continued

Following directions from the central government and the Supreme Court, multiple Lok Adalats will be organized this year, including the National Lok Adalat and three additional sessions, to ensure maximum disposal of cases.

Relief for Those Facing Legal Hassles

The scheme is expected to be a big राहत for people dealing with long-pending traffic cases and frequent court visits. By paying a reduced fine, they can close their cases permanently without further legal complications.

Government’s Aim: Faster Justice, Less Burden

The Odisha government’s move is aimed at:

  • Reducing court backlog

  • Providing financial relief to citizens

  • Ensuring quicker dispute resolution
