Kalbaisakhi Rain Alert in Odisha; Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds to hit Odisha as temperatures set to rise again, triggering heat and humidity alerts across districts

Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast Kalbaisakhi (nor’wester) rain across Odisha over the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning, thunder, and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 kmph is expected. In view of the situation, a yellow alert has been issued for 11 districts in the state.

Heatwave Conditions to Intensify After Rain

While the state is currently experiencing stormy weather, temperatures are expected to rise again from tomorrow. Western Odisha is likely to witness a sharp increase in temperature, with the mercury crossing 40°C in several areas. From April 12 onwards, coastal Odisha will experience hot and humid conditions, making the weather uncomfortable for residents.

Western Odisha to Experience Rising Temperatures

According to forecasts, weather conditions will remain mostly dry from April 11 to April 15, leading to a gradual rise in temperature. The mercury is expected to increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next three days.

In Bhubaneswar, temperatures may reach around 38°C, while parts of western Odisha could touch 40°C. Jharsuguda is likely to record temperatures as high as 41°C on April 11, as informed by Dr. Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Humidity Alert for Coastal Districts

From April 12, coastal districts are expected to face intense heat combined with high humidity. The Regional Meteorological Department has warned people to remain cautious as discomfort levels are likely to rise significantly.

A yellow alert has been issued for districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati due to hot and humid conditions.

Thunderstorm Warning and Fishermen Advisory

For the next 24 hours, districts such as Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds.

Due to the expected increase in wind speed and rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.

Precautionary Measures Advised

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning strikes. With fluctuating weather conditions, people are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe from both storms and rising heat.
