: The Odisha government on Thursday launched the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and highlight public service and social welfare activities across the state.
As part of the campaign, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi planted an Ashoka sapling at Lok Seva Bhawan before attending a mega blood donation camp at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-3, Bhubaneswar.
Target to Collect Over 6,500 Units of Blood
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi said blood donation is an important humanitarian service as there is no substitute for blood and it cannot be manufactured in a factory.
The mega camp has set a target of collecting more than 6,500 units of blood in a single day. The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to ensuring that no life is lost prematurely due to a shortage of blood.
The Odisha government has also launched the ‘Atal Raktadan Abhiyan’ with an allocation of Rs 50.54 crore in the 2026-27 Budget. Under the initiative, new blood banks will be established at medical colleges and existing facilities will be modernised.
CM Calls Upon Youth to Join Social Service
Extending birthday greetings to Prime Minister Modi on behalf of the people of Odisha, Majhi described him as a key figure behind the vision of a developed India. He said the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is aimed at promoting the spirit of service and sacrifice.
The Chief Minister also urged young people to dedicate some time from their daily lives to social service and nation-building, calling it a meaningful way to honour the Prime Minister.
Leaders Attend Mega Blood Donation Camp
Urban Development and Housing Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the blood donation drive could set a new record in blood collection in Odisha. Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal said the camp would help address blood shortages faced by blood banks, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several MPs, ministers, MLAs, senior leaders, blood donors, young volunteers and media representatives attended the programme.
