Odisha has received special recognition at the PMAY-Urban Awards 2026 for achieving the highest number of reforms under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, conferred the recognition on Odisha on World Habitat Day. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu presented the honour at an event in New Delhi.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of government officials, Urban Local Bodies and other stakeholders to strengthen urban housing delivery.
He said the achievement demonstrates Odisha’s commitment to building an efficient, transparent and people-centric housing system and will further strengthen efforts towards the vision of “Housing for All.”
24,625 Houses Sanctioned
Under PMAY-U 2.0, a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned in Odisha. The state also secured the No. 1 position nationally in house completions between March 2025 and March 2026.
The state government said the achievement highlights Odisha’s efforts to combine institutional reforms with efficient implementation and ensure dignified housing for eligible urban households.
The award was received on behalf of Odisha by BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana and Additional Secretary-cum-Director, Odisha Urban Housing Mission, Subhananda Mohapatra.
The state government said the recognition will encourage further reforms aimed at creating inclusive, resilient and liveable cities while supporting the broader vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.
