Odisha witnessed a statewide celebration of fitness, tourism and community participation on World Tourism Day as more than 10,000 people took part in a synchronised Promo Run across 32 locations.
Organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, the event was held to promote the upcoming OMC Puri Coastal Marathon 2026 and encourage a healthier and more active lifestyle among people across the State.
10,000+ Runners Join Statewide Initiative
The Promo Run was conducted simultaneously across districts and Municipal Corporations, bringing together runners, citizens, local communities and stakeholders.
The initiative marked a large-scale coordinated running activity across Odisha, with participants taking to the streets on the same day to celebrate World Tourism Day. From urban centres to district towns, the runs created a common platform to promote fitness and highlight Odisha’s tourism potential.
District and corporation-level authorities worked with the Department of Tourism and local stakeholders to coordinate the events and facilitate participation.
Promoting Tourism Through Sports
The statewide run also served as the first major promotional activity for the OMC Puri Coastal Marathon 2026, scheduled to be held in Puri on December 13.
The marathon is being positioned as a sporting and tourism event that will bring together runners while showcasing Odisha’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, coastline, hospitality and the spiritual significance of Puri.
Organisers said the synchronised runs reinforced the role of running and sporting activities in promoting healthier lifestyles while creating awareness about tourism destinations across the State.
Focus Shifts to Puri Marathon
With the successful completion of the statewide Promo Run, attention now turns to the OMC Puri Coastal Marathon in December. The event is expected to bring together participants in Puri for a celebration combining running, tourism and the State’s cultural and natural identity.
