In a major relief for petrol and diesel consumers in Odisha, customers will no longer have to pay an additional Rs 5 while making fuel payments of more than Rs 2,000 through UPI.
The decision has been taken by the Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association amid concerns over the financial burden faced by fuel dealers due to MDR charges on UPI transactions at petrol pumps.
According to the association, the issue of MDR charges has already been brought to the notice of the Union Finance Ministry. The association has also demanded the withdrawal of the additional charges imposed on petroleum dealers.
The association clarified that its intention is not to inconvenience customers. Therefore, the earlier decision to collect an additional Rs 5 from customers making UPI payments above Rs 2,000 will not be implemented.
Customers can continue to make digital payments at petrol pumps as usual, the association said.
The decision is expected to provide relief to consumers who regularly use UPI and other digital payment methods for purchasing petrol and diesel.
