Festive celebrations are in full swing across Odisha, but rain could put a dampener on the excitement. The state is likely to witness rainfall at several places over the next five days, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in some areas.
According to the Meteorological Centre, people have been advised to remain alert as changing weather conditions could affect festive preparations and outdoor programmes across different parts of the state.
For the next 24 hours, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 18 districts of Odisha. During this period, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely at some places. Gusty winds with speeds of around 30 to 40 kmph may also occur in some areas.
People, particularly those in open areas, have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and strong winds.
The weather office has also issued a Yellow Alert for six districts for tomorrow. Rain and gusty winds could disrupt outdoor festive events and preparations in some areas.
The possibility of lightning remains another major concern. Authorities and residents have been advised to closely monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.
During thunderstorms and lightning, people should avoid open fields, standing under trees and staying near electric poles or other exposed electrical infrastructure. Residents have also been advised to move to safe, enclosed places whenever thunderstorms occur.
With the festive season underway, the changing weather pattern has become a concern for both the public and local administration. Authorities are expected to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to minimise the impact of rain, lightning and strong winds on celebrations.
