Heavy Rain Expected in 11 Districts
Rainfall is likely to continue across Odisha over the next 24 hours, with the regional weather centre issuing a Yellow Warning for heavy rain in 11 districts.
The districts under the warning are Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm, Lightning and Gusty Winds
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh and Sambalpur.
These districts may experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
Heavy Rain Forecast in Nine Districts on Monday
The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain at many places across Odisha on Monday. Heavy rainfall is likely in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput and Nabarangpur, for which a Yellow Warning has been issued.
Meanwhile, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Bargarh may witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
Rain Likely to Continue Till August 15
The weather department has forecast rainfall across Odisha until August 15, with heavy rain likely at one or two places during this period.
Weather experts have indicated that rainfall may continue for another week due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation. The system is expected to keep bringing rain to different parts of the state.
132 mm Rainfall Recorded in Agalpur
In the last 24 hours, very heavy rainfall was recorded at one location, while heavy rain was reported at around 20 places across Odisha.
Agalpur in Balangir district recorded the highest rainfall of 132 mm during the period.
Baitarani and Salandi Water Levels Recede
Meanwhile, there has been some relief in the flood situation as the water levels of the Baitarani and Salandi rivers have declined. Both rivers are currently flowing well below their respective danger marks.
However, flood-related problems continue in some low-lying areas.
Floodwater Still Flowing Over Bridges in Bhadrak
Breaches in the Salandi and Nalia rivers have caused water to continue flowing through the affected areas.
Floodwater is still flowing over two bridges at Rajamukundapur under Arnapal Gram Panchayat in Bhadrak block and Matagajpur under Talagop Bindha Gram Panchayat in Tihidi block.
Several villages in low-lying areas remain waterlogged. Residents are still being forced to travel through floodwater for their daily needs.
Hundreds of Hectares of Farmland Under Water
The flood situation has also affected agriculture. Hundreds of hectares of farmland remain submerged, raising concerns among farmers over crop damage.
Although the falling water levels of the Baitarani and Salandi rivers have brought some relief, continued rainfall and the possibility of fresh showers could prolong waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
