The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) have partnered to provide school students with practical, field-based vocational learning in agriculture and allied sectors.
An orientation programme was organised at the OUAT Conference Hall in Bhubaneswar to launch the Dual Mode Vocational Education initiative in 26 PM SHRI Government Secondary Schools across Odisha. Headmasters, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) scientists, SC/ST Education Coordinators and ADEOs from 20 districts participated virtually.
Focus on Practical Learning
OSEPA State Project Director Sangita Behera and OUAT Dean of Extension Education Prof. Susanta Kumar Swain attended the programme. Behera highlighted the importance of experiential learning beyond conventional classrooms and said the partnership would strengthen skill development and career exploration in agriculture and allied sectors.
Prof. Swain assured full support from OUAT and its network of KVKs for effective implementation of the programme.
Six Vocational Job Roles
Under an MoU effective from the current academic year, the 26 schools have been tagged with OUAT and identified KVKs. Students of Classes IX and X will receive hands-on training through OUAT laboratories, farms and food-processing facilities.
Training will cover six job roles: Mango Grower, Solanaceous Crop Cultivator, Paddy Farmer, Animal Health Worker, Dairy Worker and Citrus Fruit Grower.
Boost to Skills and Employability
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom education and field-based practice while developing National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF)-aligned competencies. It is expected to enhance students’ employability, entrepreneurship and career readiness.
OSEPA Deputy Director of Vocational Education Tanmaya Kumar Behera outlined the implementation plan and expected outcomes. OUAT Joint Director of Extension Education Sarbani Das addressed queries from participating officials and proposed the vote of thanks.
