PM Modi Praises Odisha Woman Maithili for Forest Conservation Efforts in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

PM Modi highlights Maithili’s inspiring forest conservation work in Debrigarh, while stressing drug-free youth and women’s empowerment through PM SVANidhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Maithili from Odisha’s Debrigarh for her inspiring work in forest conservation during the 137th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday.

Highlighting her contribution towards protecting nature and improving livelihoods, PM Modi spoke about Maithili’s efforts to conserve forests while earning a livelihood by collecting resources from the forest. Her work has also inspired other women in the region, with around 60 women reportedly motivated by her efforts.

The Prime Minister said Maithili’s story is an example of how local communities can contribute to environmental protection while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

‘Nasha Mukt Yuva’ Campaign Gaining Momentum

PM Modi also highlighted the growing momentum of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign across the country. He said the objective is clear—to build a drug-free younger generation and a drug-free India.

According to the Prime Minister, thousands of young people are falling victim to substance addiction, creating difficult circumstances for their families. He stressed the need for society to collectively support young people and work towards their health, happiness and a brighter future.

Women Benefiting from PM SVANidhi Scheme

The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of the PM SVANidhi scheme in empowering women across the country.

He said lakhs of mothers and sisters are gaining new opportunities through the scheme, although this aspect of women’s empowerment does not receive enough attention.

According to PM Modi, women account for around 46 per cent of PM SVANidhi beneficiaries, meaning nearly 35 lakh women across the country are participating in the scheme and expanding their businesses.

The Prime Minister said such initiatives are helping women strengthen their economic independence while contributing to local entrepreneurship and livelihood generation.
