Prithvi Shaw Eyes World Cup Comeback, Dreams of Teaming Up with Arjun Tendulkar

Once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has opened up about his struggles, poor decisions, and ambitious plans to revive his career, with a dream of representing India in the ODI and T20 World Cups—side by side with Arjun Tendulkar.

Admits to Losing Focus Due to Poor Choices

In a candid interview, the 25-year-old Mumbai batter reflected on his career setbacks and personal missteps.

“I made erroneous choices in life. I started spending less time on cricket,” Shaw admitted.

He attributed his downfall to surrounding himself with the wrong crowd, which affected his discipline and training routine—cutting practice time to just four hours a day.

Career Setbacks: Fitness, Discipline, and IPL Snub

Shaw’s professional cricket career has hit significant roadblocks. During the 2024–25 season, he was dropped from both the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy Mumbai squads due to fitness and discipline concerns. Furthermore, the young talent went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, raising questions about his cricketing future.

His last international appearance dates back to July 2021, in a T20I against Sri Lanka.

World Cup Ambition: A Comeback Story

Despite these hurdles, Shaw remains focused on a strong return. His dream is to represent India in both the ODI and T20 World Cups, with a unique vision of opening the batting while Arjun Tendulkar leads the bowling attack.

“My aim is to play for India in the World Cup. Both formats—ODI and T20. That stays in my mind,” he affirmed.

When asked about teaming up with Arjun, he confidently said,

“Why not?”

Bond with Arjun Tendulkar and Sachin’s Support

Shaw shares a close bond with Arjun Tendulkar, strengthened by their childhood cricket sessions. He recalls watching the 2011 World Cup final at Wankhede Stadium, a memory that still fuels his aspirations.

He also credited Sachin Tendulkar for reigniting his motivation.

“Sachin sir is aware of my journey. Two months ago, he told me to stay focused and get back on track,” Shaw revealed.

New Chapter: Move to Maharashtra Cricket

In a significant step towards rebuilding his career, Shaw has requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to transfer from Mumbai to Maharashtra for the upcoming domestic season. This move follows Arjun’s shift to Goa and marks Shaw’s renewed focus on fundamentals.

“Now I’m on a course,” he said, indicating a structured comeback plan.

A Tale of Redemption in Progress

Prithvi Shaw’s story is one of raw talent tested by adversity. His frank confession, determination, and ambitious hopes have resonated with fans. Whether Indian selectors give him a second chance remains to be seen, but Shaw’s resolve to make a comeback with Arjun Tendulkar is shaping up to be a compelling redemption narrative in Indian cricket.
