State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has announced a revision in charges for transactions carried out at non-SBI ATMs and Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs). The revised fee structure will come into effect from December 1, 2025, marking the first such change since February 2025.
The decision follows an increase in interchange fees levied by other banks, prompting SBI to realign its transaction costs.
SBI ATMs and Cardless Withdrawals Remain Free
SBI clarified that transactions at SBI-owned ATMs will continue to remain completely free for debit card users, as per existing norms. Cardless cash withdrawal facilities such as YONO Cash will also remain unaffected, with no additional charges imposed on customers.
The revised fees apply only to transactions conducted at ATMs of other banks, once customers exceed their free transaction limits.
Free Transaction Limits Remain Unchanged for Regular Savings Accounts
For regular savings account holders (excluding BSBD and KCC accounts), the monthly free transaction limit at non-SBI ATMs remains unchanged at five transactions, including both:
-
Financial transactions (cash withdrawals)
-
Non-financial transactions (balance enquiry, mini statement)
Once this limit is exceeded, customers will be charged as per the revised rates.
Higher Charges Beyond Free Limits
Under the revised structure, charges beyond the free limit will be:
-
Cash withdrawals: ₹23 + GST (earlier ₹21 + GST)
-
Non-financial transactions: ₹11 + GST (earlier ₹10 + GST)
These charges will apply uniformly across locations.
Major Change for Salary Package Account Holders
The most significant revision affects salary package savings account holders. Previously, these customers enjoyed unlimited free transactions at non-SBI ATMs.
Under the new rules:
-
Free transactions are now capped at 10 per month across all locations
-
Post this limit, charges will apply:
-
₹23 + GST for cash withdrawals
-
₹11 + GST for non-financial transactions
-
Current Account Holders to Be Charged from First Transaction
Customers holding current accounts will continue to have zero free transactions at non-SBI ATMs. Charges at the revised rates will apply from the very first transaction carried out at other banks’ ATMs.
Certain Accounts Exempted from Revised Charges
SBI has confirmed that the revised charges will not apply to:
-
Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts
-
Kisan Credit Card (KCC) accounts
-
Certain other special category accounts
Bank Cites Rising Operational Costs
According to bank officials, the revision is aimed at ensuring pricing fairness amid rising operational and interchange costs. Customers have been advised to plan cash withdrawals prudently, prefer SBI ATMs, or shift towards digital payment options such as UPI to avoid additional charges.
