Senior Odisha cadre IPS officer and Crime Branch Inspector General (IG) Safin Ahmed has passed away after battling cancer. He was a 2003-batch Indian Police Service officer and was known for his dedicated service in policing and criminal investigation.
According to available information, Ahmed had been undergoing treatment for cancer at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He had reportedly returned to his home in Kerala just two days ago after receiving treatment. However, he passed away soon after returning home.
Born in 1976 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Safin Ahmed was an engineering graduate before joining the Indian Police Service. He was the son of CITU leader Habib.
During his distinguished career, Ahmed served in several important positions. He was serving as the Inspector General of the Odisha Crime Branch and was regarded as a senior and experienced police officer. He had also served in Kerala for a few years on inter-cadre deputation.
During his tenure in Kerala, Ahmed worked as the Rural Superintendent of Police in Thiruvananthapuram. He also made notable contributions while serving in the Cyber Crime Division and the CID Crime Branch. His professional work in these areas earned him several honours and medals.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief over the death of the senior IPS officer. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said Ahmed’s sincere and dedicated service to the state and the Odisha Police would always be remembered.
The Chief Minister also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officer.
Safin Ahmed’s death has come as a major loss to the Odisha Police fraternity. Colleagues and officials have remembered him as a committed officer who served with dedication throughout his career. His passing marks the end of a distinguished journey in public service.
