A six-year-old UKG student died under suspicious circumstances in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, after his family alleged that he was severely beaten by a teacher for not completing his homework.
The incident reportedly took place at a private school in the One Town area of Visakhapatnam. The deceased, identified as Pranaya Teja, was allegedly assaulted with a stick inside the classroom. His family claimed that he collapsed and became unconscious after the alleged assault.
According to the child’s father, Pranaya was healthy when he left home for school on Thursday morning. He had reportedly been playing normally the previous night and had no signs of illness or other health problems before leaving for school.
The family later received information that the child’s health had suddenly deteriorated. The father alleged that the school authorities did not directly inform them and that they learned about the incident through someone else. When the family reached King George Hospital (KGH), doctors reportedly declared the child dead.
The family has further alleged that CCTV footage from the school showed a teacher scolding and beating the child. They claimed that the assault and fear caused the child to collapse.
Police and administrative officials reached the hospital after being informed about the incident. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The child’s body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials said the medical examination and postmortem report will establish the circumstances surrounding the death. The family has demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible, while also alleging that other children may have faced violence at the school.
