The Chief Minister’s Daughter Marriage Scheme was officially launched today by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, marking a new phase in social welfare support for families across the state. The program began with a ceremonial inauguration at the sacred Maa Taratarini Peetha in Ganjam district.
Scheme Benefits and Eligibility Criteria
Under the new scheme, eligible families receive financial support to cover the full cost of a daughter’s wedding.
• Age Criteria: Brides must be between 18 and 35 years old, while grooms must be between 21 and 35 years old.
• Financial Assistance: Beneficiaries are granted ₹60,000 each to help with wedding expenses.
• Wedding Expenses Covered: The state government will bear all official wedding costs.
Officials reported that approximately 200 couples participated in the mass marriage event held today.
Chief Minister’s Vision and Message
Before the launch, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering women and providing them with dignity and respect.
He stated that the scheme is not just financial aid but a step toward eliminating harmful social customs like dowry. The focus, he said, is on offering young women a respectful and self-reliant start to life, fostering social dignity and pride.
State Government Implementation and Support
The Department of Women & Child Development and the Odisha State Cooperative Handicrafts Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding to support the scheme’s implementation.
As part of the support package:
• Beneficiaries receive traditional Odia items including handcrafted sarees, silver jewelry, bangles, and household essentials.
• These items are intended to help daughters establish their homes with dignity and cultural pride.
Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida announced the inclusion of these gifts and items to enhance the value of the scheme for participating families.
Public Reaction and Government Efforts
Today’s launch has brought joy to many families and young women across Odisha. Long-awaited changes in welfare delivery have begun to take shape since the formation of the new government.
Residents expressed appreciation that the administration has gone beyond promises and implemented real, tangible support for daughters and their families.
Scheme Marks a Shift in Social Welfare Focus
Community leaders noted that this initiative reflects a broader shift in governance — one that prioritizes women’s dignity, social equality, and cultural recognition. The Chief Minister’s Daughter Marriage Scheme is seen as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to bring progressive reforms to traditional practices while promoting economic and social security.
