Sharp Increase in Commercial Cylinder Prices
Soon after the conclusion of elections in five states including West Bengal, commercial LPG cylinder prices have been significantly increased, dealing a blow to businesses. The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen sharply by ₹993, directly impacting hotels, restaurants, and small businesses.

New Price of 19 kg LPG Cylinder
Following the hike, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has reached ₹3,071.50, marking a substantial increase compared to previous rates. This sudden rise is expected to disrupt market dynamics and add pressure on already rising inflation.

Food Industry and Small Businesses Concerned
The steep price hike has created concern among the food industry and small business owners. Restaurants, roadside eateries, and catering services may struggle to manage rising operational costs, which could eventually affect consumers. However, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged for now, offering some relief to household users.

Food Prices Likely to Rise
Experts believe that the increase in commercial LPG prices may lead to a rise in food and beverage costs. Hotels and restaurants are likely to revise their menu prices in the coming days, adding an extra financial burden on customers.

Third Consecutive Price Hike This Year
This is the third consecutive increase in commercial LPG prices this year. Earlier, prices were raised by ₹144 on March 7, followed by another ₹200 hike on April 1. With the latest increase of ₹993, the cumulative rise has become significant.

Currently, domestic LPG cylinder prices stand at ₹913 in Delhi, ₹912.50 in Mumbai, ₹928.50 in Chennai, and ₹939 in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar.

Reasons Behind the Price Surge
India imports a large portion of its LPG requirements, making it vulnerable to global supply disruptions. A significant share of crude oil, gas, and LPG imports comes from West Asian countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz have put pressure on oil marketing companies.

To manage supply challenges, India has increased crude oil imports from countries like Russia. However, reduced gas supply to industrial users and limited availability of LPG for commercial establishments have contributed to the price rise.

New OTP-Based LPG Delivery System Introduced
In another development, new rules for LPG delivery have come into effect from May 1. Customers will now receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on their registered mobile number during cylinder delivery. The OTP must be shared with the delivery personnel to complete the process. This step aims to prevent fraud and ensure transparency in LPG distribution.
