<p data-start="156" data-end="524">A satirical online movement called the “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP) has rapidly emerged as one of the most talked-about political phenomena on Indian social media. What began as a sarcastic response to remarks made by Chief Justice of India <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Surya Kant</span></span> has now turned into a massive digital campaign attracting millions of followers online.</p>
<p data-start="528" data-end="793">The controversy began after the CJI reportedly described a section of unemployed youth as “cockroaches” and “parasites” during a hearing in the Supreme Court on May 15, 2026. The remarks triggered widespread debate online, especially among young social media users.</p>
<p data-start="797" data-end="1020">Instead of directly protesting the statement, political communication strategist <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Abhijit Dipke</span></span> transformed the criticism into satire by launching the “Cockroach Janata Party,” popularly known as CJP.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="vyp3p3" data-start="1024" data-end="1078">Instagram Followers Surpass Major Political Parties</h2>
<p data-start="1082" data-end="1355">The movement quickly exploded on social media platforms, especially Instagram. The official CJP Instagram handle has reportedly crossed 10.3 million followers, overtaking the official account of <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Bharatiya Janata Party</span></span>, which has around 8.7 million followers.</p>
<p data-start="1359" data-end="1531">Meanwhile, <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Indian National Congress</span></span> reportedly has around 13.3 million followers, while <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Aam Aadmi Party</span></span> has nearly 1.9 million followers.</p>
<p data-start="1535" data-end="1691">The group has also launched its own website, manifesto, and campaign music, attracting significant attention from digitally active youth across the country.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="11karlj" data-start="1695" data-end="1720">Who Is Abhijit Dipke?</h2>
<p data-start="1724" data-end="2022">Thirty-year-old Abhijit Dipke is known as a political communication strategist specializing in digital campaigns, storytelling, and public messaging. According to reports, he studied journalism in Pune and is currently pursuing studies in public relations at <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Boston University</span></span>.</p>
<p data-start="2026" data-end="2272">Reports also suggest that Dipke worked with <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Arvind Kejriwal</span></span> and the <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Aam Aadmi Party</span></span> between 2020 and 2023, particularly in meme-based digital election campaigns aimed at connecting with younger voters.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="10xox2a" data-start="2276" data-end="2312">Opposition Leaders Extend Support</h2>
<p data-start="2316" data-end="2563">Several opposition figures have publicly appreciated or shared content linked to the campaign. These include <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Mahua Moitra</span></span>, <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Kirti Azad</span></span>, and senior advocate <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Prashant Bhushan</span></span>.</p>
<p data-start="2567" data-end="2828">The movement’s manifesto contains several controversial and satirical promises, including action against voter list exclusions, restrictions on post-retirement appointments for former Chief Justices, and stricter anti-defection laws for elected representatives.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="9adzlw" data-start="2832" data-end="2870">Satire Reflecting Youth Frustration</h2>
<p data-start="2874" data-end="3112">The party describes itself as the voice of “lazy and unemployed youth” who spend most of their time online. Membership criteria humorously state that applicants should remain online for at least 11 hours a day, “even inside the bathroom.”</p>
<p data-start="3116" data-end="3316" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Though largely satirical, the sudden rise of the Cockroach Janata Party highlights the growing influence of memes, online activism, and digital storytelling in shaping India’s political conversations.</p>
