Government Rolls Out PM-RAHAT Scheme

The Government of India has introduced the PM-RAHAT scheme to ensure immediate and free medical treatment for victims of road accidents. The initiative aims to reduce fatalities by providing timely healthcare support without financial burden. Under the scheme, accident victims will be eligible for cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh.

Odisha Police Directed for Effective Implementation

To ensure smooth execution of the scheme, the Odisha Police Crime Branch has issued detailed instructions to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). The guidelines emphasize the critical role of police in verifying accident-related data and facilitating quick medical assistance.

Strict Timelines for Data Verification

As per the directives, police officials must verify and approve accident details on the eDAR (electronic Detailed Accident Report) platform within 24 hours in cases of minor injuries and within 48 hours for serious injuries. In situations where the accident occurs outside a police station’s jurisdiction, officers have been instructed to complete jurisdictional transfer within just 3 hours.

Key Features of the Scheme

The PM-RAHAT scheme includes several important provisions to ensure effective implementation:

• Cashless Treatment: Victims will receive free medical care for up to 7 days following the accident.
• Admission Deadline: The injured must be admitted to a hospital within 24 hours of the accident.
• Police Preparedness: A DySP-rank officer will be appointed as the nodal officer in each district.
• Fraud Prevention Measures: Authorities will use CCTV footage and toll data to prevent misuse of the scheme.
• Monitoring System: A dedicated dashboard is being developed by the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) under the CCTNS system to monitor the entire process.
