First Anniversary of Ahmedabad Air Crash Observed

Friday marks the first anniversary of the devastating Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent history. As families of the victims continue to seek answers and justice, the final report of the investigation is still awaited.

According to official sources, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is progressing in the right direction and may take another two months to complete and release its final findings. Crash Occurred Seconds After Takeoff

On June 12, 2025, the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating flight AI-171 departed from Ahmedabad for London. However, just 32 seconds after takeoff, the aircraft crashed into the hostel complex of B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad.

The tragedy claimed the lives of 260 people, including 241 occupants on board the aircraft—229 passengers and 12 crew members—as well as 19 people on the ground.

Only one passenger, British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, miraculously survived the crash. The accident was described as one of the world’s deadliest aviation disasters of the past decade.

Preliminary Report Pointed to Fuel Control Switch Issue

The preliminary investigation report released last year revealed that within seconds of takeoff, the engine fuel control switches in the cockpit reportedly moved from the “RUN” position to the “CUTOFF” position.

As a result, fuel supply to both engines was interrupted, causing a loss of power and ultimately leading to the crash.

The finding sparked widespread speculation across international media and aviation circles about whether the switch movement was caused by a technical malfunction or human error.
