Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday strongly criticised the Centre in Parliament over the India–US trade agreement, triggering sharp reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The ruling party accused Gandhi of lowering the standards of parliamentary debate and rejected his allegations as baseless.

Rahul Gandhi Alleges ‘Surrender’ Before the US

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of compromising national interests through the trade agreement with the United States.

“The government has sold out Bharat Mata. This is a complete surrender of India before America,” Gandhi alleged during his speech, intensifying the political confrontation inside the House.

BJP Calls Allegations Baseless

In response, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi addressed a press conference, strongly refuting Rahul Gandhi’s claims. He accused the Congress leader of dragging parliamentary discourse to a lower level.

Trivedi said the Congress party, frustrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has been repeatedly making “baseless and false allegations.”

The BJP also used sharp words against Gandhi, calling him “the most intelligent fool in Congress” while dismissing his criticism of the trade agreement.

Kiren Rijiju Criticises Rahul’s Conduct in Parliament

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also criticised Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making unsubstantiated allegations and walking out without listening to the government’s response.

“Congress MPs make false and baseless allegations in Parliament and then leave the House without hearing the ministers’ replies. It is unfortunate that we do not have a serious and suitable person for the post of Leader of Opposition,” Rijiju said.

He further stated that while the party would politically counter Gandhi’s remarks outside Parliament, it would also raise the matter formally inside the House.

BJP to Move Notice in the House

Rijiju announced that the BJP would submit a notice to the Speaker regarding Gandhi’s remarks. He added that Rahul Gandhi had promised to present evidence to support his claims but expressed doubt that any proof would be provided.

“I know he will not be able to present any evidence because the allegations are false,” Rijiju asserted.
