Advanced AI Model Raises Alarm Worldwide

A new artificial intelligence tool developed by Anthropic has triggered widespread concern among governments, banks, and businesses across the globe. The tool, reportedly named Mythos, is capable of identifying decades-old vulnerabilities in digital systems and potentially using them to launch highly sophisticated cyberattacks.

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on digital infrastructure, experts warn that such advanced AI capabilities could pose a serious threat if misused.

Capable of Exploiting Legacy System Weaknesses

According to early reports, Mythos can detect weaknesses in systems that are 20 to 30 years old—many of which remain embedded in critical infrastructure. Once these vulnerabilities are identified, the tool could theoretically be used to gain control over entire systems.

This has raised fears that large-scale cyberattacks could disrupt financial systems, government operations, and essential services if such technology falls into the wrong hands.

Government Compares Threat to Warfare

India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has likened the potential threat posed by such AI tools to warfare. She noted that until recently, very few were aware of this emerging risk, but it now represents a serious challenge to global digital security.

“This threat is comparable to war,” she stated, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening cybersecurity defenses.

CERT-In Issues High-Severity Alert

India’s national cybersecurity agency, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, has issued a high-severity alert regarding the risks associated with advanced AI-driven cyber threats.

The agency has advised organizations, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to take proactive steps to secure their systems against potential attacks.

Built for Defense, But Risks Remain

Interestingly, Mythos was reportedly designed as a defensive tool to help organizations detect and fix vulnerabilities before hackers can exploit them. Unlike traditional AI tools used for writing, coding, or research, this model focuses on cybersecurity.

Anthropic is said to be planning limited access to the tool for select organizations, aiming to strengthen system defenses.

Global Concern Over Potential Misuse

Despite its intended purpose, experts fear that if such a powerful tool is accessed by malicious actors, it could be used to carry out large-scale cyberattacks. This dual-use nature of AI—where it can be used for both protection and harm—has become a major concern worldwide.

As governments and cybersecurity agencies monitor developments closely, the emergence of tools like Mythos highlights the urgent need for global cooperation and stricter regulations in AI-driven cybersecurity.
