Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit India in September to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, amid continuing tensions in West Asia. Iranian sources confirmed his visit on Friday. The summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13, with India holding the BRICS chairmanship this year.

Pezeshkian’s visit is expected to go beyond his participation in the BRICS summit. Discussions between India and Iran could cover bilateral relations, trade, the strategic Chabahar Port and the evolving situation in West Asia.

Iran became a full member of BRICS in 2024 and has since sought to strengthen its economic and political engagement through the grouping. Iran is also moving closer to BRICS financial institutions, with Tehran recently indicating plans to join the New Development Bank.

Modi-Pezeshkian Talks Likely

Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have previously held talks. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024, where they discussed bilateral ties and the situation in West Asia. India’s Ministry of External Affairs also records the Kazan meeting as their first meeting since Pezeshkian assumed office.

The upcoming visit could provide another opportunity for the two leaders to discuss regional developments, economic cooperation and connectivity.

The Chabahar Port is expected to remain an important part of the India-Iran agenda. During their 2024 meeting, Modi and Pezeshkian discussed strengthening bilateral ties and highlighted the importance of Chabahar for trade and regional connectivity.

West Asia Crisis in Focus

The visit comes at a sensitive time, with the West Asia crisis expected to feature prominently in diplomatic discussions. India has consistently called for dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation in the region.

With Iran participating in the BRICS framework and India hosting the 2026 summit, Pezeshkian’s visit is being closely watched for its potential impact on India-Iran relations, regional diplomacy and economic cooperation.

The September summit is expected to bring together several major leaders and could become an important platform for discussions on global economic cooperation as well as geopolitical challenges.

US President Donald Trump has thanked India after a road in Hyderabad was officially named after him. Calling it an “unprecedented honour”, Trump expressed his gratitude through his social media platform Truth Social and also shared a picture from the inauguration ceremony.

The road, located in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, June 24, by the Telangana government. The road has been named after the American President as a symbolic recognition of the growing partnership between India and the United States.

US Ambassador Sergio Gor was present at the inauguration ceremony and highlighted Hyderabad’s increasing role in strengthening India-US relations. He said the city has become an important centre for bilateral cooperation and global investments.

The newly named road is located near the US Consulate and was earlier known as the American Consulate Road. The area is also home to offices of several major international technology companies, including Microsoft, Google and Amazon.

Officials described the move as a symbolic gesture reflecting Hyderabad’s growing international importance and the strong ties between India and the United States.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and US Ambassador Sergio Gor formally inaugurated the road named after Donald Trump. Reacting to the honour, Trump said that no previous American President had received such recognition and described himself as the first US President to be honoured in this manner.

The proposal to rename the road was reportedly introduced by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in December 2025. The decision was taken to highlight Hyderabad’s expanding global identity and its contribution to strengthening India-US relations.

The development comes at a time when Hyderabad continues to emerge as a major hub for technology, business and international collaboration.
