In a major development that could reshape its economic future, Odisha has reported the discovery of significant deposits of gold, diamonds, and other precious stones across multiple districts. The findings, revealed in the State Assembly, highlight the vast untapped mineral wealth beneath the state’s soil.

Diamond and Ruby Deposits Identified

State Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena informed the Assembly that a diamond deposit has been discovered at Kalamidadar in Nuapada.

In addition, ruby (Manika) deposits have been identified in the Hinjilibahal-Jilingibar region under Junagarh block, marking a significant addition to Odisha’s gemstone resources.

Gold Reserves Found in Multiple Regions

Exploration reports have confirmed the presence of gold in several parts of the state. Notably, gold deposits have been identified in the Adas-Rampally area under Reamal block, along with other minerals like copper-bearing stones, graphite, and nickel.

Similarly, gold and copper reserves are believed to exist in the Madanasahi-Kanjia region under Kuliana block.

Keonjhar Emerges as Key Gold Hub

The mineral-rich district of Keonjhar has further strengthened its position with fresh indications of gold deposits in areas like Banspal and Gopur-Jaladihi.

These discoveries reinforce Keonjhar’s reputation as a major hub for mineral resources in the state.

Feasibility Studies Underway

The government has initiated detailed technical and economic feasibility studies to assess the commercial viability of these deposits. While exploration for pearls (Moti) has not yielded results so far, the findings of gold and gemstones have shown strong potential.

Potential Economic Game-Changer

Experts believe that if these deposits prove commercially viable, Odisha could emerge as a leading producer of precious metals and gemstones, beyond its existing dominance in industrial minerals.

Such a transformation could bring substantial investment, generate employment opportunities, and significantly boost the state’s revenue, placing Odisha prominently on the global mineral map.
