The southwest monsoon continues to remain active across several parts of India, bringing relief from humid heat in some regions while disrupting normal life in others. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across several states over the next few days, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and the possibility of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The weather situation has been particularly challenging in parts of the Northeast and the Himalayan region. The latest IMD bulletin indicates widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand during the coming days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in isolated areas.

Depression Over Jharkhand and Neighbouring Regions

According to the IMD, a depression over north Jharkhand and adjoining areas of southwest Bihar and southeast Uttar Pradesh is moving west-northwestwards. The system is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.

The weather system is expected to influence rainfall activity across several parts of eastern and central India. Odisha is likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from August 21 to 25, while scattered rainfall is expected during August 19 and 20.

Rain and Strong Winds Across Several States

The IMD has issued rainfall and weather warnings for several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab on August 19. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also expected over parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand during the forecast period.

Strong winds and thunderstorms may accompany rainfall in some areas. Authorities have also cautioned residents in vulnerable hilly regions about possible landslides and weather-related disruptions.

Delhi-NCR May See Rain and Gusty Winds

Delhi-NCR is also likely to witness a change in weather, with rain and gusty winds expected. The possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas could affect traffic movement.

The IMD forecast indicates continued rainfall activity in and around the national capital during the coming days, with isolated heavy rainfall possible on August 19.

With the monsoon remaining active, residents in rain-affected and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow local weather warnings.
